It was great to see a small group of volunteers make a big impression on our little island community.
The event was produced by the Mare Island Community Association, spearheaded by residents Paul Cotten and Kent Fortner. It was a real group effort with Susan Nichols recruiting local caterer Fred with his hot food offerings, Lizbeth See and her two daughters selling popcorn along with the efforts by Joe Rodrigues and his team at Universal Security to help with power, lighting and other public safety issues.
So if you missed the first show, don’t worry. The next scheduled film is Grease on Saturday Sept 15th. Here is a RSVP link and a copy of the event info:
The Mare Island Community Association (MICA) is pleased to announce the next and final Summer 2012 Outdoor Movie Series! Wait for it… “Grease!” on Saturday, September 15 at 7:30pm. (Arrive at 7:15pm, film starts 15 minutes after dark.)
This 1978 American musical directed by Randal Kleiser follows good girl Sandy and greaser Danny who fall in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? Starring John Travolta, Oliva Newton-John and Stockard Channing. Running time is 225 minutes.
Come hungry. Enjoy delicious hot sandwiches, salads, fresh popcorn and hot and cold drinks will be available. The event will again be at the Mare Island Public Waterfront area on Nimitz at the Napa River. (Just north from the northernmost dry dock. Look for the “Waterfront Public Access†sign.) Restrooms are provided. Please bring a comfortable chair, blanket and warm clothes. Don’t forget to bring your appetite, too!
Suggested donation is $10. Everyone is welcome: kids, adults, well-behaved pets. Watch for signage on the island, but be sure to RSVP on this invitation. See you at the movies!
