It’s finally happened! After years of discussion and months of planning, the Mare Island Community Association (MICA) is pleased to announce its Summer 2012 Outdoor Movie Series event lineup. The first screening is Saturday, August 18 at 8:00pm. (Arrive at 7:45pm to find seating, film starts 15 minutes after dark.) For our grand opening we’ve chosen Steven Spielberg’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, a classic, family favorite. In collaboration with George Lucas, writer, John Williams, composer, Spielberg’s classic film depicts archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones who is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. Starring Harrison Ford, Karen Allen and Paul Freeman. 115 minutes.
The second event is Saturday, September 15 at 7:30pm. (Arrive at 7:15pm, film starts 15 minutes after dark.) For that screening, we’ve chosen “Grease”. This 1978 American musical directed by Randal Kleiser follows good girl Sandy and greaser Danny who fall in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? Starring John Travolta, Oliva Newton-John and Stockard Channing. 225 minutes. We’re in the midst of negotiating a food truck, popcorn machine and other snacks. More details yet to come. The event will be at the Mare Island Public Waterfront area on Nimitz at the Napa River. (Just north from the northernmost drydock. Look for the “Waterfront Public Access” sign.) Restrooms are provided. Bring a comfortable chair, blanket and warm clothes. Stay tuned for more details on the food truck and popcorn sales. Suggested donation is $10. Everyone is welcome: kids, adults, well-behaved dogs and cats. No snakes, please! Watch for signage on the island, but be sure to RSVP on this invitation. See you at the movies!
