Over 100 residents attended a forum at the Mare Island Museum Thursday October 6th to listen to the candidates for Vallejo City Council and Mayor express their views on Mare Island issues. All council candidates, Johnathan Logan Jr., Robert McConnell, Bob Sampayan, Matthias Esoimeme, Sam Kurshan, Jesus “Jess” Malgapo and Erin Hannigan, participated in the moderated event sponsored by the Mare Island Community Association. Residents in attendance commented to me that while many of the candidates were prepared on the island specific issues and CFD taxes and some were not. It was clear from the answers to the variety of questions, that all of the candidates did recognize that Mare Island can be a economic engine for Vallejo and the region again.
Following the council candidates, was a presentation by the mayor candidates, Osby Davis and Joanne Schivley. Even though each candidate made sure to point out why they were the best choice for the job, there were some light moments that broke the tension between the two.
It was great to see residents and candidates discussing Vallejo’s future in a one of the oldest buildings on the island. Make sure you cast you vote on Tuesday November 8th!
