Several hundred people from around the region gathered at Mare Island’s Building 680 for an open house and ribbon cutting celebration to mark the official opening of the Allied Defense Recycling, Mare Island Dry Docks. As rain drizzled outside the massive building, dignitaries spoke of new bright days ahead for the former naval shipyard. The company, with currently 30 employees looks to hire a hundred or more workers when it is at full capacity according to local press reports. Those jobs would be a welcomed boost for Mare Island and the Vallejo community.
What wonderful photos of an exciting event! The photos really capture an important day in the life of Mare Island. Nice to see Mare Island coming back. In this struggling economy the news of more jobs to come is especially welcome and that it brings Mare Island’s history into the present is really special. The last photo with the little girl and her dad is so sweet. A real “awww” moment! Thanks for sharing with us all.
